Day 15: The Intervals Give Me Hope
Today changed my entire view on the 30-Day Push-Up Challenge.
Not because the push-ups got easier—I’m not sure they ever will, despite how many I do—but because, for the first time, they felt possible.
Going into Day 15, I wasn’t completely sure introducing intervals was the right decision.
I hoped it was.
Honestly, I needed it to be.
After the last several days, I’d started to understand just how much cumulative fatigue mattered. Every workout was carrying the weight of the one before it, and I knew that if this challenge was going to remain attainable, something had to evolve.
Not the goal.
The strategy.
Discovering the Intervals
So today became the first official interval day.
Instead of attacking all 120 push-ups as one continuous workout, I divided them into three separate intervals, each followed by a dedicated break.
Doing so provided an unexpected but also intended goal:
For the first time in days, I finished all of my push-ups within the timeframe.
The workout didn’t suddenly become easy, and it still demanded everything I had.
But mentally, I wasn’t staring at 120 push-ups anymore.
I was staring at the interval in front of me.
Finish this one.
Rest.
Then do it again.
That simple shift changed everything.
Instead of spending the entire workout trying to conserve enough energy to survive the end, I could actually use my energy when I needed it. I could push harder during an interval because I knew recovery was coming. I could pay attention to when my knees needed to come down, when I could fight for another rep from my toes, and when a quick reset in Child’s Pose would help me finish stronger.
Are Intervals Cheating?
Ironically, part of me felt guilty.
Was I making the challenge too easy?
Was this a shortcut?
The more I thought about it, though, the more I realized the standard hadn’t changed.
Every push-up still has to be completed.
Every interval still has to be earned.
I still had a lot of fight left before I hit Day 30, but I simply found a better way to get there.
The intervals didn’t remove the work.
They removed the overwhelm.
Take the Rest
Today also marked something else I desperately needed:
My first scheduled rest day.
Before this, I’d been asking the same muscles to show up every single day without a break. After everything I’d learned over the past week, it finally clicked that recovery wasn’t the opposite of progress.
It was part of it.
That might be the biggest lesson Day 15 gave me.
Sometimes we mistake adaptation for weakness.
We think changing the strategy means lowering the standard.
It doesn’t.
If anything, it increases the chances that we’ll actually reach the goal.
Even race cars need a pit stop once in a while.
Turns out…
Warriors do too.
“I need a Savasana.”
Those were the first words out of my mouth after today’s 30-Day Push-Up Challenge workout.
For a yoga teacher, it felt strangely appropriate. Savasana isn’t just about lying down. It’s about allowing your body and your mind to absorb everything that just happened.
Apparently, I needed that more than I realized.
